Question

The Member for Bahati (Hon. Irene Njoki, MP) to ask the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy: - Could the Cabinet Secretary – (i) state the measures put in place to ensure that mobile phones stolen within the country are not used in neighboring countries, considering that a significant number of handsets stolen in Kenya are sold in Uganda, Tanzania, and the Great Lakes Region to evade local security measures designed to deter or track the use of stolen devices? (ii) clarify whether the Ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, maintains a comprehensive database of all reported cases of phone theft, and if so, provide the relevant data and the number of successfully recovered devices in the past year? (iii) outline the measures that have been established to effectively dismantle operations of the well- organized and highly sophisticated syndicate involved in mobile phone theft?
