Hon. John Gitonga Mukunji is serving his first term as a Member of the National Assembly, having been elected in August 2022 to represent Manyatta Constituency under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). He does not currently serve on any parliamentary House committees. As a first-term MP, he has already taken proactive steps in shaping legislation, introducing a bill in July 2023 aimed at amending the Micro and Small Enterprises Act to strengthen the “Buy Kenya, Build Kenya” agenda by supporting local businesses. He also drafted a motion in 2023 to establish a “State Capture Commission” to oversee government operations and curb monopolies in key industries. Additionally, Mukunji has pushed for a referendum requirement in the impeachment process of state officers via a motion tabled in October 2024. His leadership and engagement have earned recognition—he was elected interim chair of the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association in August 2023.
