Sen. Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen served two terms as the elected Senator for Elgeyo Marakwet County, first elected in 2013 and re-elected in 2017. During his tenure in the Senate, he held key leadership roles, including Senate Majority Leader, Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations, and was also a member of the Speaker’s Panel.
Following the 2022 general election, he began what would have been his third Senate term, but in September 2022, President William Ruto appointed him as Cabinet Secretary for Roads, Transport and Public Works, prompting him to vacate his Senate seat. He later served as Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports from July 2024, and in December 2024, was reassigned as Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, a post he currently occupies.
