With the support of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), Mzalendo Trust on 4th May 2023 engaged Makueni County Civil Society Organizations on the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Local process in bid to strengthen the awareness of Makueni County Government Officials and civil society organizations on the OGP.
Guiding the participants through this enlightening session was our Senior Programs Officer, Mr. Gitungo Wamere. He provided comprehensive insights into the OGP Structure, spanning from the Global Steering Committee and OGP Support Unit to the National Steering Committee, National Technical Committee, Points of Contact, and Multi-Stakeholder Forums. Following this, the participants actively engaged in an analysis of the current Commitments outlined in the National Action Plan IV, identifying how their work aligns with these commitments.
Additionally, Ms. Joice Mulu from MAPACA Trust highlighted the OGP process within Makueni County, shedding light on the challenges it faces. She underscored issues such as insufficient funds for carrying out awareness and advocacy by Civil Society Organizations and limited experience in collaborating with other counties involved in the OGP.
We also later paid a courtesy call to the County Director of Public Participation, Dr. Zipporah Wambua to discuss the status of OGP process in the County especially in relation to their three commitments, public participation, open contracting, water management and integrity.
